VOCAB EXPRESS
The Languages department are happy to announce that Ernulf Academy will be continuing its subscription to Collins’ Vocab Express through to the end of next academic year.
Throughout the year, we are able to set up class competitions and challenges based on learning key French vocabulary and students are free to access the site online at any time. We use AQA GCSE French and there is proof that regular use of Vocab Express contributes to higher grades at GCSE.
The new school year will start with a UK wide challenge set by Collins. The highest scoring school for the first month of the year, as well as the highest scoring students, receive certificates to celebrate their achievement. Please, encourage your child(ren) to log in and get familiar with this engaging resource. All Ernulf students are able to login with their assigned Username and password. The school code, if required, is: UKERNU. Click the image below to access the website.
CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY
TASTER DAY
Following on from a very successful Year 9 Languages taster day in March of this year, hosted by Magdalene College Cambridge. A group of 12 Year 10 students accepted another invitation to experience language learning in a University setting and travelled to Cambridge on Friday 28th June to spend the day at Cripp’s Court.
They listened to some very persuasive arguments about the value of learning a foreign language in an increasingly global society and were able to ask questions about life as a student at Cambridge University. They participated alongside students from other schools around the UK and experienced three different language classes throughout the day.
As always, they were a credit to us all and happily told us that they had all had a good day, judging the visit very informative and useful to them as they consider plans and possibilities for future studies. We are sure to repeat this experience when our invitation comes again.
Thank you to Mr. Trewen and Mrs. Kearney for accompanying us and helping to make the day such a positive experience for participating students.
