Ernulf Library has gone mobile!
The Ernulf Library has become mobile
As the school is working under strict COVID guidelines the library has had to adapt: instead of the students coming to the books the books are going to the students.
There is a trolley of books in the year 7, 8 and 9 zones with a wide range of books which will be refreshed and changed periodically. We have student librarians who are responsible for keeping the books tidy and ensuring that students return a book before taking out a new one. They work during tutor times, break and lunchtimes so there are plenty of opportunities for changing books in addition to reading lessons. There is also a “click and collect” facility where students can check the library catalogue online and request a book which will be delivered to them in their tutor group.
All students in years 7 and 8 are enrolled on the Accelerated Reader programme which expects them to read for at least 15 minutes every day. Once they have finished a book they take a short quiz on the computer to check how much they have understood and this rewards them with points towards a target. The link to the AR website is on the school website and English teachers have put it on Microsoft Teams so students will be able to quiz from home from October half term. They can also add up how many words they have read which we have found can motivate students to read more which has a positive impact on all their subjects and is a valuable life skill.
